RETROSPECT

Thanks all for the support and well wishes. No pity me. Life is full of adversities and it's my time up to bat... again!

Before the accident: I many times have these vignette-type dreams where I'm precariously about to get a severe injury, not unlike Aunt Josephine's irrational fears in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Besides the ejecting garbage disposal, one injury that often pops up in my mind is curling my foot and crushing it. Maybe there's some Joe Theismann syndrome in this, but it has been somewhat of a recurring nightmare for me.

10/28/13 (still before the accident): I got to the beach at Pipeline in the evening and it was firing. However, I stupidly forgot to pack my swim fins! Started asking around to borrow a pair, but no luck. Saw Tamayo Perry and explained my plight. "Everything happens for a reason," he prophetically said. Ended up scrounging around and went out with just *one* fin. Really difficult with less power so I stayed out of the impact zone. Maybe it was a sign of things to come.
