SURF OBSERVATIONS
Stroking -- 6/12/04
It's always worth the paddle
Date: June 12, 2004
Time: 0730 -- 1000
Spot(s): Sui's, dhlh
Conditions: Light winds, smallish crowd
Swell: Fairly consistent with only windswell peaks
Surf: 1- 2' Haw'n
Words: Woke up late and rushed over to Diamond Head.
Found that some running race was going on, with the police blocking
off access from the west. Damn!
Parked it near Suicides and went out there. There was
only small, weak windswell to be had--pretty depressing really. I
decided to take the opportunity to do something I had always wanted
to do--I was going to paddle all the way to Lighthouse, checking out
the reefs along the way.
Did a nice, easy paddle over, maybe about 35-40 minutes.
The reef didn't look too good on the tradewind swell, but I'll keep
watching out there.
Had an average session out at dhlh, but it was still
fun. Met up with the old morning weekend crew. Surprisingly satisfying,
maybe because of the previous long paddle.
Decided I had enough energy to paddle back, especially
going with the wind and current. And so I did. Came out a little tired,
but satisfied.
