SURF OBSERVATIONS
The Westside Delivers -- 4/25/04

It was sweet!

Date: April 25, 2004
Time: 0545 -- 1000
Spot(s): Westside spots 1 and 2
Conditions: Offshore with fairly light crowds
Swell: Inconsistent, but building south swell
Surf: 3-5' Haw'n

Words: What to do? The huge south didn't show as forecast. The Country had a nice pulse the day before. Could only commit to one thing. Taking a major chance, I decided to head to the unpredictable Westside.

Got to destination #1 and I knew right away I made the right decision. Only one guy out and it was firing. It was actually a bit inconsistent, but we were stoked.

Eventually got pretty crowded, but we got our share. Buddy and Russ K. came out later on, along with Hubb and Dubb. It was fun.

I was trying hard on my shortboard, but was having a tough time in the challenging conditions. My body wasn't 100% with a tingling in my arm and leg. Managed to snag a few that stood up real nicely (did the old Hawaiian pull-out).

Later on, Buddy and I decided to check out another spot (destination #2). We pretty much had it to ourselves, but were a bit flustered by the inconsistent sets. When the waves came, 200 yard rides were not uncommon. But many times impatience got the best of us and we got caught several times.

Dinged my new board on the sketchy paddle-in. Sigh. Small price to pay for scoring on the Westside.

Aloha from Paradise,
stickman
