SURF OBSERVATIONS
Talk Story in San Diego -- 7/29/99

Da crew: Ron, Tom K. and Tom T.

Planned one last mini-sesh with the boys. Everyone came, the waves didn't. Low tide and a dying south swell conspired to leave us with very little to play with.

Instead, we just hung out in the parking lot for an hour and a half, just talking story. Some other guys joined us, including Bill Andrews and Bill Decker. Some of the stories were so classic: the history of the shack, grommethood under Butch. It reminded me of how much surfing heritage revolved around the place and the people here.

Got a gratuitous shot of the alt.surfing boys (George Barnes sent his regards) before saying our goodbyes.

Later in the day, I got a chance to jump in the water for a quickie session. I definitely had a much greater appreciation of the heritage of Windansea. Next time, I’ll rent a longboard for the duration.

To all the alt.surfers who gave me support and offered to show me around, I am truly grateful. Mahalo! But it's time to head home, to another slice of paradise.

Aloha from La Jolla,
stickman
